Assembly process is straightforward with directions.

All the pieces were present, which is important. All the pieces were cut accurately, and fit together tightly (nicely). If you take your time, the assembly goes quickly and well. I loaded it up with dozens of textbooks, with no complaints. You can make something cheaper, from boards and cinderblocks, but this shelf looks much nicer than that.

While I was aware that this was not a solid wood bookcase, my experience with items from this manufacturer have been good, so I knew what to expect. It is a great piece (we actually bought a 5, 4 AND 3 shelf bookcase) and is doing exactly what we had expected it to do.

You probably dont want to load every shelf with a lot of weight, but we keep all of the heaviest books and binders on the bottom shelf or two and other pictures, books, etc. on the higher ones. No problems to date!

Assembly is quick - only about 20-30 mins

Great Buy!

I was looking for inexpensive bookshelves that would show off my collectables rather than the shelves themselves. My living room is relatively dark, so I applied a light colored contact paper to the back panel before nailing it on. It reflected the available light and made everything stand out perfectly. I like these shelves so much (I bought 3) that I'm going to buy one more to balance the room.
As far as ease of putting them together; it took me longer with the 1st one, and I screwed the top shelf on upside down (not clear in the instructions), but easy to correct. The other shelves went together in about 15 min each...by myself.

Great Value!

We purchased 4 of these bookcase shelves to set up more book room in our upstairs. These shelves fit the bill perfectly, especially for the price. No, they arent great furniture, but for 64.00 a piece they are worth it. First of all they are very easy to put together, most every piece was cut the same from bookcase to bookcase. So lining up all 4 side by side, they look very uniform.

Most every piece has some kind of finishing flaw or blemish, but they can be touched up with a furniture marker. They are well packed, and Walmart did very well in shipping them to the store for me. Yes, they are heavy in the box. I managed to carry each one into the house by myself, but I would recommend 2 people to carry the box inside.

Overall Im very happy with the purchase.

For the price, these are great shelves

I orderd all three sizes for a wall. They were very eazy to asemble. The product looks good and is very functional. The only bad part is that when I opened the box of the taller one, the two end pieces were broken in half (poor handleing). I called the toll free number, and was impressed by the woman I spoke with-very pleasing. They will ship to my home two new pieces.

First. This is not high quality furniture. The 4 stars are for an inexpensive, good looking, sturdy, temporary piece of furniture that is very easy to assemble.I got the three units of 3, 4, @ 5 for a quick  craft room setup. It has a beautiful presentation. Best thing I love was  the heavy laminated units were delivered free to my front door by Walmart. It's will not be passed down to family but gives me an inexpensive good looking room FAST.

Good inexpensive furniture that will do the job.

I have 4 south shore book cases, two 5-shelf and two 4-shelf. They go together pretty fast and with little effort. Reasonably sturdy for a cheap book case, but the shelves do sag just a little when loaded with books as you can see in the photo. They are functionally attractive. The back is cardboard, the shelf pins are plastic, and the price is great. I built a 5-shelf bookcase and it cost me $75 in materials and took hours to cut, paint and assemble. Very sturdy, however. I'm going to purchase 2 more of the south shore 5-shelf units so I obviously can recommend them. I am going to use hardboard for the back and nail it to every shelf, adding about $10 to the cost of each one. If you're looking at bookshelves in this price range then look no further, these will do the job.

Basic Bookcase does its job

I ordered two (white). This is the first put-together product that I've received where the holes were properly drilled and matched up. And, plenty of supplies. The instructions are pictures only, so I had to figure out a few things. Both arrived on time as promised, in good shape and fairly easy to put together. The back is heavy cardboard (color matches the bookcase), attached with small nails to the back.  I'm using them as shelves in my master closet to hold linens and other items. I recommend this bookcase if you don't need a heavy-duty, all-wood, frequently used bookcase (like shoving books in and out a lot as the back may become loose). All you need is a small hammer and Phillips screwdriver to put them together. They are great, basic, shelves.

Good product

Although we knew we weren't getting any spectacular furniture at this cost, this was cheaper than we had expected. Easy to assemble, but very flimsy. The cardboard backing does not lay flush against the shelves, and it is poor quality. Good for a temporary piece or if value is needed.

cheap price, cheap product

I am truly sorry, this has been a bad experience for me. I ordered two bookcases on line. They arrived promptly, and when a friend came over to my new place to assemble them, we found out that I got the wrong parts. Not in one packet, but in both. I was supposed to get a G and G1 for the two sides of the bookcase, but instead I got two G1 parts, in both packets! So, we could not assemble either one. Now I am waiting for a person with a truck to help me take them to the local Wallmart store for return, because the packets are big, and they don't fit in my car.
I will not buy furniture from Wallmart again, because this has been a difficult experience.
