I had issues with the standard metal (pull up push down) bath plug, so I pulled it out. This is a long hair household, so the drain gets plugged frequently, and it was hard to fish it out around the old plug. The cylinder on the bottom of this flex plug is smaller than the drain itself, but the wide flap generously covers the area around the drain, so it completely plugs the water during baths. This also makes it easy to pull out & remove hair. I don't have a problem with “how difficult it is to remove the hair”. Just take some scissors, remove the hair, clean the plug, and put it back. It's easy. You push down and pull up the flap in the centre to drain water. I haven't had a problem with how quickly the water drains during showers or baths...just clean the hair at the rate you should, and would have to with any other drain plug. It's been a month, and I haven't noticed any smells...but I will be curious about how this holds up in a year. I do mustard baths, bath bombs, salts, coffee, etc...no issues with draining or staining.

Really happy with this purchase. I was sad that the Umbra cover with the little buddy seemed nowhere to be found.  But this is a perfect and more pratical replacement.  It fits our Moen drain perfectly in the kids bathtub.   It's catching hair and I love that I can buy a new one when it's starts to get moldy in the kids tub.  I bought three!

I purchased this to plug our bathtub as the original one has started to have a slow leak. This works perfectly! I also like the hair catching part as well because unlike having the drain open, this can be removed after the shower to allow the hair to dry before removing it from the catcher. No more pulling slimy hair out!! The only downside is that sometimes it will clog easily and the shower slowly turns into a bath.

Again This is a great product from Umbra. It works It looks smart There is nothing quite like it available online that I was able to find.

Not what I expected. Looking for strainer not hair catcher.

Strainer vs catcher

I have long hair and have used multiple products to prevent hair clogs. The catcher is aesthetically pleasing and effective, but it's removing the hair from the catcher that makes it a deal breaker. The hair  gets so tightly around the catcher that you are ripping it off, if you are lucky. I have also had to cut the hair out of the catch on multiple occasions.

Looks great, effective, but at a price...

The water doesn't drain when the plug is open and the hair catcher doesn't catch any hair. 
Just a lump of rubber.

Save your money

Works well but impossible to clean. 
The hair get stuck around the smallest area (bottle neck) and once it's stuck around, even the smallest pair of cissors won't be able to reach it.

Hair gets stuck

Unfortunately the hair gets tangled in this product and is very hard to remove. I've purchased the starfish style before which works a lot better. This product becomes very clogged easily and the tub fills up with water when it should drain. I would not purchase this again.
