Using Koleston Perfect 9/1 mixed with Pastel Developer is my go-to for an extremely natural and controlled base break on pretty much any level of hair. 5-10 minutes at the sink on damp hair really helps cut down the harsh contrast between the base and highlights without over-lightening or exposing too much warmth.
