Old cheddar cheese

Armstrong Old Cheddar is one of my favorite products and l consume on a regular basis.

It seems impossible to find cheddar in Canada as sharp as that in Britain, but this tries and is quite pleasant.

Decent

I used to buy this fairly regularly in-store at Walmart at the 450 g size for $4 so this shrinkflated package seems to be the permanent new normal. It's barely noticably flavoured more than their Medium cheese so calling this Old is a stretch. It's a medium-okay grocery store cheese product for slicing over your eggs in an omelette or making a quick cheese and whatever sandwich. It's priced itself into the range of actually good aged deli cheese though so I only order it rarely if in a hurry.

Armstrong "Old" Cheddar Cheese

Armstrong seems to changed its flavour profile. I found the cheese lacking character and was gummy. The piece I had had no cheddar notes whatsoever. I've had some really good Armstrong cheddar at almost $9 for a 400g block it was disappointing

Expensive and mediocre

Great on its own, but DO NOT USE FOR MAC AND CHEESE! This stuf will not melt properly. I ended up with a messy, stringy sauce with rubbery clumps. Had I known, I'd have grated it and sprinkled on top instead and just used the marble store brand (melts fine). Completely ruined my dish. Armstrong used to be good, now store brands perform better.
