Fantastic! They get the job done and they are lined so even if you're not using them for water protection, they're great to keep kids warm. They are unisex so you could use them for girls or boys. 
I like the detail of an area inside the pants to write their name. They're not 100% waterproof. The water does get absorbed but it's more of a wicking affect. The water doesn't seep through to the inner layers. It just stays on the exterior layer, so it never lets their pants get wet. Always dry pants on the inside which is the point! Oh and they dry really quickly, so no need to worry about school the next day they will be dry in time.
I buy these every year for my eldest and the younger ones get them passed down and they are all in great condition. Only one pair, over the years, has torn at the knee because my son was crawling on icy rocks with his friends, so in fairness, no matter what he was wearing was going to get torn.

My grandson loves these pants he has ADHD and is very picky so these meet his requirements.

These rain pants are perfect! I was pleasantly surprised to see they had a comfy liner in the inside and for a great price as well. I'm just wishing I found these sooner!

I assume a medium is a 6-8. My son is thin, but tall and a 7 usually is fine. These are very long. Extra lenght isn't a deal breaker, but they are long, but also elastic cuffed so they easily hang out over the rainboot without dragging. Good product. LOVE they are in blue and not just black or navy!!!
