Will Walmart match competitor prices?

Absolutely! We pride ourselves on having guaranteed unbeatable low prices. In the rare case that you find a price that beats ours—we’ll match it. We’ll gladly Ad Match with proof of the current in store retail price of any local competitor’s ad (printed or digital) for an identical item, provided that the item is in stock.

Here’s how you can request an Ad Match:

1. Online:

  • Complete and submit our Ad Match form.
  • Your request will be forwarded to our Customer Service team and you’ll hear from us shortly.
  • Please note that when submitting an Ad Match request online, you must provide a URL (website address) to the local competitor’s digital flyer. If you only have a printed copy of the flyer, please request an Ad Match in store.

2. In store:

  • Present a valid flyer (printed or digital) of any local competitor to a Walmart Associate at checkout.
  • If approved, your Walmart Associate will match the price on the spot.

Please note that only items sold and shipped by Walmart are eligible for an Ad Match request. Ad Match is not applicable to: used or refurbished items, clearance sales, combination promotions (i.e. gift with purchase), double or triple coupons, after-sale rebate offers, preferred customer discounts or random discounts (i.e. scratch and save events) offered by other retailers, or competitor misprints or withdrawn or corrected advertisements.

We reserve the right to limit quantities. Our “local competitors” and “identical items” are determined by us. Walmart’s Ad Match program may be modified or withdrawn at any time without notice.

If the price of a product drops after I buy it, can I get a refund for the difference?

Within 30 days (with receipt), if a customer has purchased an item from any Walmart store that is now offered at a lower Walmart price, the store will refund the difference of the price for the customer. Important: the refund excludes items that are on Clearance.

What is the “Price per unit” (located below the price)?

Great question! The price per unit (for example: 35¢/EA or 3¢/GR) is an estimated value of each unit or measure in the product sold. One “each” can mean a sheet, load, diaper, pod, and so forth, depending on the item itself. In some cases, the unit is a mass or volume measure such as “g” or “ml”.

The price per unit is intended to help you compare the value of similar products. For example, compare one large box of diapers to a medium one to see which box has the better value per diaper. Note the price per unit is not the price of the item itself and the units are not sold separately.

What tax rate will I be charged?

This is a great piece of sales tax trivia! First, you should know that we charge all applicable sales taxes based on Federal and Provincial legislations.

For products purchased on, Walmart will calculate and charge all applicable sales taxes based on the shipped-to location. This means that you are charged sales tax based on the destination of your purchase — not necessarily the location from where you placed the order.

For example, if you are shipping your purchase to an address in Alberta and you made the purchase on a computer in Ontario, the sales tax you see during the checkout process will be calculated according to sales taxes in Alberta. This is the same for anywhere in Canada.

What additional fees could I be charged?

Some products sold by Walmart are subject to environmental handling or deposit fees. These fees vary by product and by province, and are collected by Walmart and sent to stewardship organizations according to provincial recycling programs. The fees cover the cost of recycling, collection, transportation, and disposal of products. Customers who believe they were inadvertently charged an incorrect environmental handling or deposit fee, should contact our Customer Service team.

Can I use my employee discount online?

Absolutely! You can connect your discount card to your account in a few steps:

  1. Click “My Account”.
  2. Click “Personal Settings” on the left hand side of the page.
  3. Scroll to the “Associate Discount” section at the bottom of the page.
  4. Click “Add your WIN and Discount Card Number to your account”.
  5. Type in your WIN and Discount Card number, click the box that says, “I agree to the Discount Card policy found on the WIRE”, and click the “Save” button.
    And you’re set up to shop with your employee discount!

Good to know: Your spouse can use your WIN to set up their discount card too. 

Can I use a manufacturer's coupon?

Walmart Canada is committed to saving Canadians money so they can live better. One of the ways we support this is by accepting vendor coupons. However, because we require the physical coupon to submit to the manufacturer, you cannot use a manufacturer’s coupon for online purchases. Here are the procedures for accepting coupons in any store at Walmart Canada:

  • Multiple coupons may NOT be applied for one item.
  • The item at checkout must be identical to the item on the coupon. This includes brand, packaging, weight, colour and size.
  • The date on the coupon cannot be expired.
  • The coupon must be valid in Canada and showing a Canadian address.
  • If there is a barcode, it cannot be damaged.
  • Online coupons must be printed, not shown from a mobile device.
  • Coupons can be redeemed at any time during the transaction.
  • Ad Match can be used in conjunction with a single coupon.

Can I get a rain check?

We’re sorry — starting March 1, 2016, we won’t be issuing rain checks anymore. However, we will continue to honour all rain checks issued before March 1 in stores only.

Do prices vary based on shipping locations?

Yes, the price of some of the products available online will vary based on your shipping location. The first time you visited you were asked to enter your postal code. This postal code is stored as your shipping location for all of your visits to If your shipping location ever changes, you can update your postal code/shipping address in your cart, during the checkout process, or in the personal settings in your account.

What tax exemptions are currently available on

Unfortunately, at this time, does not have the ability to process the following tax exemptions online: Status Indian, Farmer’s, Fishermen, Resale, Government, Adult Clothing for age specific exemptions.

However, you can apply to the tax authorities for a refund for your eligible exemption. Please save your receipts to file your refund application for tax paid. For further information on your province’s policies and to access the refund applications, please visit:

Why can't I find a product online that I saw in a store?

Availability and stock may vary between stores and We understand this may be frustrating for you so we’re aiming to have all of the products you see in stores available online on in the very near future. Stay tuned!

The product I would like is out of stock. Will it be coming back in stock?

While we try our best to have everything you need and want in stock, sometimes items become discontinued, sell out, or sometimes we stop selling them. We can’t guarantee if or when an out-of-stock item will be available again, but please check the site later to see if an item is back in stock, or to see if we sell a similar item. Of course, you can always call your local Walmart to see if the product you would like is available in store.

The product I would like is currently out of stock. Can I back-order it?

We do our best to keep core products in supply, but if an item is out of stock, unfortunately you cannot create a backorder. You can check back anytime to see if the item is in stock, or you can check with your local Walmart to see if they carry the product in store.

What is a pre-order?

A pre-order is an order placed for an item that has not yet been released by the publisher/supplier. often holds pre-orders for new and popular products, such as video games, video game consoles, DVDs, and toys. Why are products recalled?

Recalls and advisories are made when a product is found to carry potential health risks, or if it poses safety hazards to customers using those products.

How will I be notified if a product I bought at Walmart is recalled?

If an item you ordered from is ever recalled potential health or safety concerns, we will send you a notification through the email linked to your account, or to the email address you provided during the checkout process.

Will my product be covered under a manufacturer's warranty?

A limited manufacturer's warranty is included free for certain categories of products, and may include an option to extend coverage up to 3 more years. When available on a specific product, extended coverage includes 100% of repair or replacement costs, including shipping costs for the exchange. Specific details are available before you begin checkout. If you order extended warranties, you will receive information about fulfilling your warranty in a separate email, after the warranted item ships.

What is Walmart’s Extended Warranty Plan?

The Extended Warranty Plan can extend the manufacturer’s warranty for up to 2 years (to a maximum of 7 years) on all of your eligible Walmart Rewards MasterCard purchases. Whether you buy electronics or appliances, at Walmart or any other retailer in the world, if you use your Walmart Rewards MasterCard, your warranty can be automatically doubled. 

How do I cover my product under a Walmart Extended Warranty Plan?

The Walmart Extended Warranty Plan is tied into the Walmart Rewards MasterCard, so to cover a product under the Plan, start by signing up for Walmart Rewards MasterCard. You can ask any associate at a Walmart checkout counter for an application, and if you have any questions or concerns about the application process, you can always call Customer Service at 1-800-328-0402. After you have received your credit card, you can enrol in the Extended Warranty Plan by calling 1-888-331-6133. How much does it cost?

Good news! If your monthly statement balance is less than $25.00, a monthly warranty fee will not be charged to your Card, or in other words, the coverage is free! However, in any month with a statement balance of $25 or more, a fee of $3.99 per month (plus applicable taxes) will be charged to your card.

Will my product be fixed, replaced, or refunded?

On a per claim basis, the Cardholder is entitled to receive from the Plan Provider the least of the following benefits:

  • the cost of repairs;
  • the actual cash value of the purchased item immediately prior to the loss;
  • the replacement cost of the purchased item; or
  • the purchase price of the purchase item.

How do I redeem a warranty?

Keep in mind that your receipt is your warranty, so be sure to keep your receipt in a safe place. If a problem arises that is covered by your warranty, take your receipt to the nearest store and they will be happy to help you.

Warranty periods can vary between different items, so be sure to know the terms of your warranty (including whether or not you must return your item in its original packaging).
