If I buy something from Walmart, can I return or replace it?

The Walmart Canada Standard Return Policy applies to purchases made in-store or that are sold and shipped by Walmart as well as Marketplace items shipped and fulfilled by Walmart.
The Marketplace Return Policy applies to purchases which are both sold and shipped by Marketplace sellers.
Replacements are only provided for general merchandise items sold and shipped by Walmart that have arrived damaged or are incorrect.
How long do I have to return my item?
Please consult the Walmart Canada Standard Return Policy or the Marketplace Return Policy, according to the case, and note when the return timeframe begins:
- In store purchases: the return timeframe begins on the purchase date.
- Online purchases: the return timeframe begins on the date of your order’s arrival. You can see the return window and return options for your purchase by navigating to the Purchase History page of your account on Walmart.ca or on the Walmart app, and selecting the order and the item you would like to check. The return window will appear above the item’s name. If you checked out as a guest, the return eligibility date can be found in your official receipt email, which is sent to you when your order ships.
How can I return items that I bought online?
This depends on who fulfilled your order: Walmart or a Marketplace seller.
Items shipped and fulfilled by Walmart from inside Canada
Return them to a store or start your return process in the app and return the items by mail. If you choose to return your items by mail, Walmart will cover the shipping cost.
If you decide to return something by mail, you can usually drop the item into any Canada Post mailbox. Larger items will be eligible for a “call tag”, which means someone will come to your house to pick up the item. In this case, the carrier will call you to arrange a pickup time.
The following items cannot be returned at a store (start the return process in the app or contact Customer Service at 1-800-328-0402 to make arrangements):
- Oversized or overweight products (i.e. weighing greater than 100 lbs or larger than 40” by 48”, such as but not limited to full-size mattresses and large appliance items, etc.)
- Jewelry items over $40 in value
The following items must be returned at a store (original packaging and online order number required):
- Fuel Powered Equipment: All fuel powered equipment. If an item has been filled with fuel it cannot be returned by mail even if the tank is drained before shipping.
- Dangerous Goods (containing chemicals, compressed gases or liquids, lithium battery): For example: aerosol cans, household cleaners, cellphones, laptops, iPads, tablets, etc.
Items shipped and fulfilled by Walmart from outside Canada
Start your return process in the app and return the items by courier - Walmart will cover the shipping cost. Please note that these items CANNOT be returned to a store.
Items sold and shipped by Marketplace sellers on Walmart.ca
Return them to a Walmart store or directly to the seller*, depending on the conditions listed below:
*Return shipping charges from sellers may apply.
- Items returned to a Walmart Canada store must include all original packaging and materials.
- Items in the list below can only be returned directly to the seller:
- Items with a retail price above $250.00 CAD
- Fuel Powered Equipment
- Dangerous goods (i.e. hazardous materials containing chemicals, compressed gas or liquids which could pose a health or safety risk.)
- Oversized or overweight products (i.e. weighing greater than 100 lbs or larger than 40” by 48”, such as but not limited to full-size mattresses and large appliance items, etc.)
- Items on Recall
- Items reported to cause Bodily Injury or Property Damage
What if an item arrived damaged, defective or incorrect?
You can request a refund or replacement for eligible* items sold and shipped by Walmart.
*Replacement eligibility follows the Walmart Standard Return Policy. If an item is not eligible for a return, it will not be eligible for a replacement.
If eligible, we’ll send you an exact replacement in the correct colour/size/price/brand at no extra charge. You will be required to mail back the original item to Walmart using a prepaid shipping label. The replacement item will only ship to you once we receive the original item back at our warehouse.
Follow these steps to replace an item:
- Use the Walmart.ca app or sign in to your Walmart.ca account. Select Account, and select Purchase History.
- Find the order from which you’d like to request an item to be replaced and tap Start a return.
- Select the item(s) you’d like to replace and tap Continue.
- Choose the reason for refund. Select Replacement for eligible issues from the request options and then tap Continue.
- Next, select Return by mail. We’ll provide you with a prepaid shipping label to send back your original item that needs to be replaced.
If an exact replacement in the correct colour/size/brand is unavailable, the replacement order will be cancelled, and you will be notified and refunded.
Along with your returned item, we will also refund any tax and environmental fee. We will also refund any associated shipping charge for defective products or if you received the wrong item. Please know that we will not refund shipping charges if the return is due to changing your mind.
Please note, replacements cannot be requested in a store. However, you can return your item in a store, if eligible. Please consult Walmart Canada’s Standard Return Policy.
Can I return groceries that I bought online?
Absolutely! We want you to love what you bought. For most items you have our standard return window of 90 days, and we also offer a no time limit satisfaction guarantee for produce, meat, and seafood bought in stores.
Please submit a refund request using the Walmart.ca app or contact us. Please note that online refund requests for grocery items are only available for ten days after the delivery date. After that, you may bring the item to a store to return it.
What if there is a problem with an item after I receive my online grocery order?

Follow these simple steps below to submit a refund request.
Registered customers — If you have a Walmart.ca account and your delivery was within 10 days, there’s an easy way to request a refund for an item. Please follow steps 1 to 4 below.
Guest customers — If you don’t have a Walmart.ca account and checked out as a guest, please create an account. Once you’ve registered your account, you can easily submit a refund request using steps 1 to 4 below.
- Use the Walmart.ca app or sign in to your Walmart.ca account. Select Account, and select Purchase History.
- Find the order from which you’d like to request an item for refund and tap Start a return.
- Select the item(s) you’d like to request a refund for and tap Continue.
- Choose the reason for refund and tap Continue.
Once you select “Continue,” your refund request is submitted. You’ll receive an email from us confirming your refund request has been received. Within 48 hours our Customer Service team will review the request and, if approved, send a final refund confirmation at which time a credit can be issued to your original method of payment. Once the refund is applied, the funds will appear in your account between 3 to 5 business days, depending on your financial institution. Please note, if purchases were made in part using an eVoucher or promo code, we are unable to refund or reapply the eVoucher or promo code.
We offer this process as a faster way for you to request a refund. However, in some instances, further validation may be required. In that case, reach out to our Customer Service team for a refund.
Can I return children’s clothing?
Absolutely! We want you to love what you bought, so we offer the following satisfaction guarantee for Walmart Canada’s exclusive brands of children’s clothing (George and Athletic Works):
Any item (excluding accessories) can be exchanged (same item, same size) if worn out before the child outgrows the item. If identical item is not available in identical size, Walmart will substitute a similar item of equal size and price.
Are taxes and shipment charges refunded when I return an item?
If your purchase was fulfilled by Walmart, we will also refund any tax and environmental fee along with the refund for your returned item.
If you are returning defective products or if you received the wrong item, we will also refund any associated shipping charge.
What is the return policy for Marketplace items fulfilled by Walmart?
Items sold by Marketplace sellers and fulfilled by Walmart follow Walmart Canada’s Standard Return Policy.
I bought an item from a Marketplace seller that was shipped by the seller. Can I return it at a Walmart store?
Yes (with a few exceptions)! For your convenience and peace of mind, eligible Marketplace items shipped by the sellers can be returned to Walmart stores.

How do I initiate a return for an item sold and shipped by a Marketplace seller?

Bring the item(s) along with all the original packaging and materials and the Order Number to the Customer Service Desk at your Walmart store.
- Please note, only items valued less than $250.00 CAD are eligible for in store returns. If you wish to return items with a retail price above $250.00 CAD, please reach out to the Marketplace seller directly.
- Some items cannot be returned at a store. Please, consult the Marketplace Return Policy.
Direct to Seller return:
- Click the “Contact Seller” option in "Purchase History" in your account.
- Select the item(s) you wish to return.
- Select the reason as “Returns".
- Briefly explain the reason why you would like to return the product.
- Click the “Submit” button.
